Almost two-thirds of people in Northern Ireland believe that Brexit has increased the likelihood of Irish unity, according to the results of a social attitudes survey.
The Department of Health has said that it hopes to rectify the issue by the end of the year.
The issue as it stands prevents students from Ireland, who are studying in UK universities, from applying for medical internships within the Irish health service.
Up to 20% of Queens University's research funding is at risk due to a row between the EU and UK.
